The change that Sibusiso Vilakazi sees in the Bafana squad
Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi has outlined the major change that he has seen in the current national team squad.
The 1996 African champions have been in good form since Belgian mentor Hugo Broos took charge in May 2021.
SA football fans had thrown the towel on supporting the national team following a disappointing and poor string of results. However, Broos has changed all that. In 17 matches in all competitions they have won nine, drew six and suffered two defeats.
To add, the team qualified for the 2023 AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast after missing out on the 2021 edition that was held in Cameroon. In this year’s edition, they have impressed, reaching the knockout stages, the quarter-finals.
‘Villa’ has 32 caps with the national team, and he contributed towards seven goals, finding the back of the net five times and providing two assists. He was part of the squad that represented the nation at the 2015 and 2019 AFCON finals hosted in Equatorial Guinea and Egypt, respectively.
SIBUSISO VILAKAZI SAYS BAFANA NOW PLAYS WITH HUNGER, CONFIDENCE AND DETERMINATION
Vilakazi says the current Bafana squad plays with a lot of hunger and appetite to win their matches.
The midfield engine sees a positive change in the team, fueled by a strong desire to win and achieve something.
“The current [Bafana Bafana] team has an appetite; you can see from the way that they play. And the way they impose themselves in the field of play,” Vilakazi posted on his social media account.
“The courage that they have, they play with and the confidence that they play with. The results show that there is appetite.
“There is an appetite to change, it’s been there, and it’s the nature of us as a country to win.”
