Former AmaZulu FC midfielder finds new home in Zimbabwe

After failing to find a new club in the DStv Premiership, a former AmaZulu FC midfielder is set to join a first-division team in Zimbabwe.

The midfielder was released by the Durban-based side having failed to impress the then head coach Romain Folz. He was deemed excess baggage when Usuthu made a massive clear-out at the end of the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season.

The clear-out saw the likes of Neil Boshoff, Xola Mlambo, Luvuyo Memela, Philani Zulu, Tsepo Masilela and Kgotso Moleko.

They also cut out Abraham Majok, Siphelele Mthembu, Andre de Jong and Augustine Mulenga. However, Mulenga has since rejoined the club.

Consequently, he has opted to restart his career back home, Zimbabwe, under the watchful eye of coach Lizwe Sweswe.

Ncube arrived in Zimbabwe on Tuesday to join Sheasham FC who compete in the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League.

The Sheasham FC coach, Sweswe, confirmed Ncube’s imminent arrival at the club.

“We are taking him on board. He came on Tuesday, he is resting today [Wednesday] and the come to here to finalize,” Sweswe told FARPost.

The 31-year-old is expected to be a pillar at the club, which was relegated from Zimbabwe’s PSL at the end of the 2023 season. According to Transfermarkt, Ncube made 77 appearances during his stay at AmaZulu, where he scored three goals.

Meanwhile, for Zimbabwe, he has six national team caps, with no goal to his name. He joins the list of former PSL players who are now plying their trade in Zimbabwe after falling out of favour in S.A.

These include Walter Musona, formerly with Polokwane City, ex-AmaZulu winger Talent Chawapiwa and Talbert Shumba, among others.
