Ex-AmaZulu FC defender learns fate at Casric Stars
Ex-AmaZulu FC defender Samkelo Mgwazela has learned his fate at Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars.
Mgwazela has been on trial with Casric Stars as the club prepares for the second round of the 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation season.
The centre-back parted ways with Usuthu at the start of the current DStv Premiership campaign after struggling for game-time.
Mgwazela never played a single match for AmaZulu FC last season. He left the club mid-season in the previous campaign to undergo trials at Royal AM. However, Thwihli Thwahla opted against signing him.
The former Golden Arrows defender joined AmaZulu in 2020 on a free transfer. He spent three seasons with the Sandile Zungu-owned team and made 33 appearances in all competitions.
SAMKELO MGWAZELA STOPS TRAINING WITH CASRIC STARS
Mgwazela, who has been training with Casric for the past few months, has learnt what the future holds for him. FARPost understands that the 23-year-old versatile player has stopped training with Stars.
The young defender is set to continue his club search after failing to secure a contract with the Mpumalanga-based side.
“Samkelo Mgwazela is no longer training with Casric Stars. He’ll have to continue searching for a new club,” a source said.
“It was promising, and it looked like Casric was going to sign him, but in the end, things didn’t go well. At some point, he was put on a special program to lose weight and regain his fitness, but I can tell you that things didn’t work out.”
Stars will be looking to join the race for the NFD title when the second half of the league resumes on the 13th of February, 2024 after the ongoing AFCON tournamnet in Ivory Coast.
They will face Maritzburg United on the 13th of February at Giyani Stadium. The match is scheduled to kick off at 15:30.
