Arrows bolster squad by signing JDR Stars defender

Golden Arrows have bolstered their squad by signing defender Thokozani Lukhele from Motsepe Foundation Championship side JDR Stars.

Lukhele becomes the club’s third signing as they are getting ready for the second half of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

In the January transfer window, Abafana Bes’thende has beefed up their squad by signing the Zambian duo of defender John Mwengani and striker Moyela Libamba.

Lukhele was a key player for JDR Stars in the current campaign. The 22-year-old had made 15 appearances and helped the team by contributing towards two goals.

The fullback has a mountain to climb to earn a spot in the Arrows’ starting line-up. He will have to work extra hard and challenge the likes of Brandon Theron, Siyavuya Ndlovu and Nduduzo Mhlongo who have been in the team.

In an interview with FARPost, Pontsho Madumo of Cream Sports Management, Thokozani Lukhele’s agent: “It has been my dream to have a player from my kasi move to professional football.

“I believe this will motivate others to work hard. There’s a lot of talent in Hammanskraal that goes untapped. I strongly believe this is the start of a new chapter for us.”

The right-back may make his competitive debut in SA’s topflight against Tshwane giants Mamelodi Sundowns. The league encounter will be played on Wednesday, 14 February at Mpumalanga Stadium.

They were in their worst form after losing their last six consecutive league matches. Now, after 16 league matches, Arrows are seventh on the log standings. The have amassed 23 points following seven wins, two draws and seven defeats.
