Malinga makes honest admission after switch from Swallows to Arrows
Kagiso Malinga has made an honest admission after switching from Moroka Swallows to the KZN-based club, Golden Arrows.
The left-footer, Malinga terminated his contract with the Dube Birds in January following the reported unpaid salaries. The former SuperSport United man then became first January signing for Abafana Bes’thende who made three mid-season acquisitions.
They also signed John Mwengani and Moyela Libamba.
Speaking to the media on open day on Thursday, Malinga stated it felt like a “fresh start” as he was looking to adjust in his new club.
He admitted the move to the Durban-based club was a “relief” after facing challenges in the first round of the DStv Premiership at his previous employers.
“It’s just that you need to be positive mentally and work hard. And with the gelling and combination, we will get there,” said Malinga.
“It’s a fresh start for me.”
‘STRESS WISE, I’M OUT OF IT’, SAYS KAGISO MALINGA
“To be honest yes [it’s a relief], I’m glad I’m this side, stress wise I’m out of it. So, I just need to be positive,” he continued.
Having been with the club for a few weeks, Malinga says being mentored by a former striker Mabhuti Khenyeza grants him more understanding of what is expected of him as a forward.
“He’s been telling me you where to do my movements and to be calm. When you’re in front of goal, you need to be ice cold,” he continued.
“So, most of the time, we rush and then fumble. But then now, I think going into the upcoming games, we just need to be ice cold when we’re in the box.”
The 29-year-old could make his club debut when Golden Arrows welcome the league champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday 7 February at the Mpumalanga Stadium.
