Prins Tjiueza to Cape Town City FC situation clarified
After attracting massive attention from PSL clubs, fresh details have emerged on Namibia’s star Prins Tjiueza’s situation with title hopefuls Cape Town City FC.
Tjiueza was sterling for The Brave Warriors during their 2023 AFCON campaign, so much so that a number of clubs, including Mamelodi Sundowns, were angling for his signature.
The 21-year-old sadly sustained an ankle injury during Namibia’s Round of 16 match against Angola in Ivory Coast.
Consequently, the injury has emerged as a major setback for Cape Town City, who were was aiming to utilize, Tjiueza, their only acquisition during the January transfer window.
And as DStv Premiership action nears resumption after the AFCON break, FARPost is reliably informed that Tjiueza is yet to join the Eric Tinkler coach side.
PRINS TO CT CITY CLARIFIED
An impeccable source said: “At the moment, Prins is here in Namibia in his home town, Walvis Bay,” said a close source in Namibia. But what I’ve heard is that he failed the medical due to his injury and that it would take about three months to recover.
“Also that Cape Town City will have a look at him at the end of the season again. They didn’t wanna sign him because he would not have played much this season.”
Tjiueza’s agent, Bevan Dicks confirmed that the rising star is scheduled for an operation.
“Prins will have an operation and will be back stronger than ever. But I can’t comment on the whole situation at the moment,” he said.
Moreso, Tjiueza is likely to be fully fit by the end of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.
The left-footed maestro made 15 appearances in all competitions at the Kosovo club, KF Liria. He scored five goals, with one assist to his name.
CT City will, however, have to make do without him, as they are currently in second position in the standings. They were aiming to fill the void left by Colombian Juan Zapata. Zapata left last month after a rather unsuccessful stint under Tinkler.
Additionally, City parted ways with veteran midfielder Thato Mokeke. Mokeke has been training with cross-town rivals, Cape Town Spurs, in an attempt to retain his place in the elite league.
Plausibly, goalkeeper Darren Keet has signed a two-year contract extension, while midfielder Taahir Goedeman penned a four-year contract.
