Maboe in buoyant mood ahead of Pirates clash after injury setback

Mamelodi Sundowns winger Lebohang Maboe is in a buoyant mood and confident that he’s fit enough to take on Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership clash at the weekend.

Bafana Ba Style will welcome Jose Riveiro‘s charges at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday, 17 February 2024. The game will start at 20:00.

This showdown is deemed to be a game of the weekend, given the rivalry between the two sides.

Maboe had sustained a knee injury and underwent a successful surgery which forced him to spend some time on the sidelines.

The 29-year-old footballer confirmed that he’s in a good space and ready to face rivals Pirates on Saturday after working tirelessly to get back to full fitness.

LEBOHANG MABOE: ‘I’M MORE CONFIDENT THAN I WAS BEFORE MY SURGERY’

“I’m a lot more confident than I was before my surgery. I’m in a much better place now than I was before I got my injury,” Maboe was speaking ahead of their much-awaited showdown against Pirates.

“Even in the pitch, I’m in a good space. I believe in myself and I do not doubt my abilities that I have. Also, knowing that we have got a lot of quality players in the team, and it’s not going to be easy. It goes down to small things that the coach mentioned, going the extra mile and doing corrections. Also, asking for help so that you can improve.”

Maboe continued: “But I think I’m more confident where I am right now and looking forward to the second round of the season.”

As things stand, Sundowns are flourishing at the summit of the DStv Premiership log standings. Masandawana have managed to collect 35 points from 13 matches.

Meanwhile, Pirates are placed fifth on the table with 25 points from 16 outings.
