Kompany gives update on Foster’s injury, blow for Bafana?

Burnley FC coach Vincent Kompany has given an update on the injury of Lyle Foster who was nowhere to be seen in their previous match against Liverpool.

The 23-year-old will be on the sidelines again having returned in December after receiving specialist care for his mental health.

Since his return, Foster has played eight games for the Clarets and they will have to fight to move out of the drop zone in his absence.

The South African striker has been the main man for the Premier League side, scoring four goals and providing three assists in 16 matches they have played across all competitions.

Kompany has revealed that Foster will sit out some time as he went under the knife after sustaining an injury. However, he insisted that the player would not be out for the whole season.

VINCENT KOMPANY SAYS LYLE FOSTER WILL BE OUT FOR SOME TIME

“He won’t be available [for this weekend’s game against Arsenal]. He had surgery on a chronic issue that needed resolving,” Kompany said as per Burnley Express.

“It’s not season over but he’ll certainly miss out for a period of time.”

Meanwhile, Broos recently expressed his frustration on seeing Foster participating regularly for Burnley while the club said he wasn’t ready to play AFCON.

And the Belgian tactician was asked about the possibilities of Foster’s inclusion in the upcoming games. He revealed that he checked with Kompany if the forward would be available to be called-up in March when Bafana face Algeria and Andorra in friendly games.

BROOS SAYS HE’LL VISIT BURNLEY IF FOSTER ISN’T AVAILABLE IN MARCH

“I got a message yesterday [last Thursday] he has to be operated on,” said Broos. “I was messaging Kompany to see what is happening and if he would be available for the end of March.

“Available mentally, but also would he be recovered from the operation. For the moment I don’t know, I don’t know which injury this is now. I think in a few days I will know more.

“I messaged the [SAFA] doctor [Thulani Ngwenya] to say please make contact with Burnley and see what’s happening. But it will not be, ‘OK, Lyle come now, like nothing [has] happened. I will talk to him first and see how he sees the situation.

“And when Foster comes that means everybody wants him to come, otherwise you will have a big problem.”

Broos said he will visit Burnley to find answers should the club say Foster isn’t available for the national duty.

“I think the best thing to do is contact him and see what the situation is. Is he ready for March?

“But if he is not ready for March, I will go to Burnley and talk to him and see what the situation is,” he added.
