AmaTuks and Baroka claim wins as title race heats up

AmaTuks and Baroka FC claimed wins in the Motsepe Foundation Championship as the title race for the 2023/24 season heats up.

The Pretoria-based side defeated Upington City 2-1 at Tuks Stadium on Friday to move to 34 points after 19 matches played. Tuks have won nine league games, drawing seven, and lost three times.

Elsewhere, Baroka FC returned to winning ways after defeating Pretoria Callies 2-1 at Global Stadium on Saturday.

Bakgakga played out to a 1-1 draw against Platinum Rovers in the first match of the second round in the Motsepe Foundation.

Another Limpopo-based outfit Black Leopards notched an impressive 3-1 win over Platinum City Rovers in the Limpopo Derby.

Leopards, who had a poor start to the season moved to the seventh spot on the log with 26 points. Lidoda Duvha won eight games, drew two, and lost nine times.

The David Thidiela-owned team was relegated to the ABC Motsepe League last season but made a return to the second tier after buying the status of All-Stars.

MARITZBURG UNITED DROP POINTS IN TWO SUCCESSIVE MATCHES

Meanwhile, Maritzburg United failed to collect maximum points for the second time in a row after settling for a goalless draw with Milford FC.

The Team of Choice played to an entertaining 3-3 draw against Casric Stars in the first game of 2024 in the Championship. Maritzburg lies 11th on the log with 22 points.
