AS FAR star hails coach Nabi’s tactics after crushing 5-0 victory
AS FAR attacker Tumisang Orebonye showered praise on coach Nasreddine Nabi’s tactical nous following their dominant 5-0 victory over MCO Oujda on Sunday.
The win saw AS FAR open a two-point gap over their archrival, Raja Casablanca, at the top of the Botola Pro 1 table.
Raja dropped points against Union Touarga on Saturday when they played a goalless draw. It was the eighth time Jozef Zinnbauer’s side drew this season as they push to topple defending champions AS FAR.
Orebonye, who scored the third goal in the emphatic win, attributed the team’s success to Nabi’s tactical adjustments and halftime pep talk.
The newly signed forward, who joined the club from Algeria’s USM Alger last month, hit the target for the second time since joining the army side. His other goal was the equaliser when AS FAR played a 1-1 draw against Raja last week.
“Coach’s ability to identify our opponents’ weaknesses was important for us. Going into the second half, he told us where the spaces were, and all three goals that we scored in the second half came from exploiting those spaces,” Orebonye told FARPost.
COACH NABI’S RECORD AT AS FAR THIS SEASON
The Botswana international was named in the Botola1 Team of the Week with three other teammates. Nabi was named Coach of the Week after picking his second win of the week. They were 1-0 victors over Renaissance Club Zemamra on Wednesday.
Sunday’s win means they have won 13 of their 19 fixtures, while four ended in draws. The Rabat outfit has the best scoring record this season with 43 goals, 12 more than their nearest rivals, Raja. They have the third-best defensive record, having let in 14 goals, three more than Raja and RS Berkane.
Nabi joined the Moroccan outfit at the start of this season after leaving Young Africans, whom he guided to two successive trebles and the final of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The emphatic victory puts his AS FAR in a strong position to retain the league title they won last season. However, Orebonye remains cautious, urging his teammates to stay focused and maintain their winning momentum.
“We can’t get carried away,” he warned. “There’s still a long way to go, and we need to take each game as it comes. But this win gives us immense confidence, and we’re determined to keep fighting until the very end.
“AS FAR’s next challenge comes in the form of Union Touarga on Sunday. A win would further solidify their lead at the top and put them in a commanding position in the title race.
