Johnson’s verdict on Du Preez and Dolly in a match against Royal AM

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has given his verdict on Ashley Du Preez and Keagan Dolly’s performances in their match against Royal AM.

Amakhosi and Thwihli Thwahla settled for a point apiece after a 0-0 stalemate in the second-round opener of the DStv Premiership 2023/24 season. It was their second goalless draw this season after their first-round match ended with the same scoreline at the FNB Stadium.

Both sides wasted several clearcut chances in front of goals where they could have buried the game.

Du Preez, who recently returned from injury, could have bagged a brace on the day as he had two one-on-one opportunities with Hugo Nyame who made fantastic saves to keep Royal AM in the game. The Cameroonian shot-stoper was chosen as the man of the match after the final whistle.

Meanwhile, Dolly, just like Du Preez, recently came back from injury and was brought on in the second-half but didn’t contribute much for the side.

Johnson was impressed with Du Preez’s showing but he “expected” him to utilise the chances he got in the match.

CAVIN JOHNSON HAPPY WITH ASHLEY DU PREEZ

“Ash [Ashley Du Preez] really, really put in a good shift, I expect him to score all the goals because he is a goal scorer,” said Johnson after the match.

“And if he scored the goal, he was going to be the hero today. But unfortunately, he didn’t score the goals, he’s back and he looks good.”

Chiefs gaffer says Keagan Dolly is still working on regaining his form after being on the sidelines for quite some time.

“Keagan has just come back, we are working with him and you see he only got a few minutes, about 30. So, hopefully they will be back for 90 [minutes] soon, soon. I know Ashley went a lot longer than we expected him today.”

Chiefs face Milford FC in their next game in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32 on Sunday, 25 February at the FNB Stadium at 18:00.
