Katsande reacts to Khama Billiat’s move back to Zimbabwe
Retired footballer Willard Katsande has compared the Khama Billiat move back to the Zimbabwean Premier League with that of Cristiano Ronaldo moving to Saudi Arabia.
Billiat is set to be unveiled by the Zimbabwean PSL club, Yadah FC.
This is after weeks of speculation about the 33-year-old’s future in South Africa and abroad. Billiat trained with SuperSport United and there had been links to a move to Cape Town City.
Katsande, who played with Billiat at Ajax Cape Town, Kaizer Chiefs and the Warriors national team, feels it was a good decision for Billiat to return to Zimbabwe.
WHY WILLARD KATSANDE APPROVES OF KHAMA BILLIAT MOVE BACK HOME
“He is like Ronaldo moving from Europe to Asia. So he is going to boost every team in the League,” Katsande told FARPost.
“I am sure every player in the PSL [in Zimbabwe] can’t wait to start the season and there is a reason why they need to play well. There is a reason why they have to play against Yadah.
“The team he is going to, I know the owner is a very good friend of mine and I know him personally. So in terms of professionalism, he is in a good space where he just needs to focus on football,” he said.
“It is a good decision for him to go there to revive his career, especially in this difficult moment.”
WHY A MOVE BACK TO ZIMBABWE WAS NECESSARY FOR THE FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS STAR
“We know that he didn’t play for close to a year,” added Katsande.
“So he needs space where he is going to be comfortable to try to come up again. He just needs a different environment whereby he kicks start again. He is a fragile boy, I know him very well so I think it was a good move for him.
“There is nothing wrong [with his move], look at Ronaldo. He went to Saudi Arabia and he is still scoring goals. We also need him to get out of retirement and help us qualify for the World Cup.”
