Ex-Chiefs defender questions Amakhosi players’ dedication to the badge

A former Kaizer Chiefs defender has questioned Amakhosi players’ dedication to the club’s badge, having gone nine years without winning any silverware.

The last time the Soweto giants won a major trophy was back in 2015 when they lifted the DStv Premiership title under the tutelage of Stuart Baxter.

Since 2015, the Cavin Johnson-coached side has been trying their luck to bring back Chiefs’ glory days, but all their efforts have yielded fruitless results, causing more heartbreaks for the club’s fans.

Tlou Molekwane, who played as a right-back at Chiefs between 2009 and 2012, has questioned the hunger of the current Amakhosi squad.

TLOU MOLEKWANE ON KAIZER CHIEFS PLAYERS’ COMMITMENT

The 35-year-old retired footballer stated how the previous generation of Chiefs “respected the badge” because they knew what it meant to do that Gold and Black jersey.

“Obviously, it has not been easy for a big club like Kaizer Chiefs to have not been able to bring in any silverware each and every year. I know it has been frustrating for everyone who’s involved in that big brand,” said Molekwane.

“So, my opinion, I believe that the players that we have at Kaizer Chiefs at the moment compared to the previous generation, we had more hunger, you know. We respected the badge because we knew what it meant to wear that Gold and Black jersey.

“Therefore, whenever we got the opportunity to play, we always gave our best. But now, I doubt the efforts and the commitment of the players. I mean, the players are there, and the coach cannot play.”

TLOU MOLEKWANE CALLS FOR CHIEFS PLAYERS TO PULL UP SOCKS

Molekwane went on to say that if the players want to turn things around, they must leave everything on the pitch [give their all].

“Everyone who has been given the opportunity to play must all give their best and be committed to the badge. But I’m still hopeful that things will turn around,” he added.

“I still believe in coach Cavin Johnson’s ability even though I know fans are impatient, but you cannot blame them because it has been forever without any silverware or celebrating something, and they have been loyal to the club through thick and thin. So, let’s give them time. I know they will come around.”
