Former Chiefs attacker Kamohelo Mahlatsi’s next move update

Former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Kamohelo Mahlatsi’s quest for a new club takes centre stage with an update on a potential landing spot.

Mahlatsi left Chiefs at the start of the 2023/24 PSL season after struggling to break into the matchday squad due to injury setbacks and stiff competition in the midfield position at the club.

The midfielder’s time at Chiefs saw him feature in seven matches across all competitions, but he was unable to register any goals or assists.

The 25-year-old, who joined Amakhosi in 2022 from Moroka Swallows after a promising start to his career, has been a free agent for over six months.

After parting company with the Glamour Boys, Nyaope was on trials with cash-strapped Swallows but the deal couldn’t materialise.

Mahlatsi resurfaced at Chippa United in January for an assessment as he looks to return to competitive football in the second half of the campaign.

The former Bafana Bafana youth international has featured in the Chilli Boys’ friendlies, and indications are that he has impressed the club’s technical team.

Chippa is coached by Thabo September and Kwanele Kopo, who both worked with Mahlatsi at SuperSport United development ranks.

“Chippa wants to fight in the top eight in the league. So they want to form a squad that can compete for the remainder of the season.”

Meanwhile, the Port Elizabeth-based side has beefed up the goalkeeping department with the signing of Darren Johnson.

The 27-year-old goalie joined Chippa on a free transfer after parting ways with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side AmaTuks in August 2023.

Johnson will compete for a position between the sticks with Stanley Nwabali and Lloyd Kazapua. Both goalkeepers took part in the 2023 AFCON with Nigeria and Namibia, respectively.
