Vilakazi drops bold statement about Richards Bay despite league struggles
Richards Bay FC head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has dropped a bold statement about his side in spite of the league struggles.
The Natal Rich Boyz have only won three league games in this season, losing ten and drawing four. They sit in 15th position above Cape Town Spurs who are rooted to the bottom of the DStv Premiership table.
The KZN side sacked Kaitano Tembo on Christmas Day last year after a poor first round of the campaign.
Vilakazi, who was the senior coach was roped in as an interim coach, and has coached the side in three matches winning two and losing one.
Richards Bay secured the Nedbank Cup last 16 spot after beating Polokwane City 3-2 at home on Saturday.
Prior to this match, Vilakazi had said, “Once we get this win in the Nedbank Cup, I’m just saying watch out going forward, this team is something else.”
He insisted that he knew “for the fact that” Richards Bay would remain in the top-flight next season.

“The primary responsibility I have now is to try and make sure that I save the team,” said Vilakazi.
“That’s the main thing I need to see happening in my football career at this moment. Going forward, obviously I’m still a young coach, there’s still a young coach.
“I’m not gonna say I am in a hurry, I want to win the Nedbank Cup, I want to win the league. What is important is to save the team in this particular time, that’s where my focus is.
“And I know for the fact that definitely we will be saved, that one I know. But we will have to work very hard. We have to dig deep in terms of making sure that the team stays in the PSL next season.”
