Ex-Chiefs striker slams ‘comfortable’ Cavin Johnson
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Mike Rapatsa has accused interim coach Cavin Johnson of being too comfortable and doing nothing to improve the team because he knows he has a ‘guaranteed’ job.
Amakhosi look set to go another season without a trophy following their embarrassing Nedbank Cup exit to minnows Milford FC.
They also trail DStv Premiership log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by 17 points with 13 matches to play this season. But the Glamour Boys can still compete for a spot in the CAF competitions if they finish in second or third place.
MIKE RAPATSA NOT CONVINCED CAVIN JOHNSON IS THE RIGHT MAN TO IMPROVE KAIZER CHIEFS
Rapatsa has taken a swipe at Johnson, whom he says doesn’t look like he is under pressure, and that has also rubbed off on the players.
“He is so relaxed as if he owns Kaizer Chiefs,” Rapatsa told FARPost.
“I have never seen a coach who is not under pressure to perform like I see Cavin Johnson. It’s like he is being guaranteed something by the management. Every coach would be under pressure to perform by now.
“If the results are not forthcoming, you should be trembling. I mean is like there is a guarantee no matter what happens that he is there to stay,” added Rapatsa.
FORMER STRIKER RAISES AN ISSUE OF ATTITUDE FROM ‘COMFORTABLE’ AMAKHOSI COACH
“But the same attitude rubs off on the players. If you look at the coach he is so relaxed, if you look at the players they don’t care.”
“Let me be brutally honest with you. Cavin Johnson is not a coach. If we compare Johnson and Rulani Mokwena of Sundowns, who is doing his Job? It’s Mokwena. He is helping his players to get into scoring positions and doing so as a team. But I don’t see Cavin Johnson working hard,” he said.
“He had the whole time during the AFCON to prepare the team. Mind you, he said he doesn’t want to reinforce. So, everyone is expecting to see something different from a coach who believes in his coaching abilities and getting the best out of players.
“But when they come back there is no difference, They are even worse. I think the coach doesn’t have the best ability to get the best out of the players.”
