Sundowns thrash AmaZulu to extend unbeaten run

Mamelodi Sundowns continue to cruise nicely in the DStv Premiership as they defeated AmaZulu FC 3-0 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday night.

The hosts, Sundowns, took command of the showdown making use of their home ground advantage.

But in the first half, the home side couldn’t capitalise on their clear-cut chances as AmaZulu remained disciplined at the back, but things took a U-turn in the second half.  

Below are the talking points from this entertaining league fixture between Bafana Ba Style and Usuthu.

LUCAS RIBEIRO SHINES

It was Lucas Ribeiro’s show at Loftus Versfeld as he scored a hat-trick on the night.

He broke the deadlock in the 48th minute to put Masandawana in front. Ribeiro did not stop there as he scored his second goal in the 57th minute.

In the 78th minute, Ribeiro completed his hat-trick to seal maximum points for Rulani Mokwena‘s side.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS PLAYERS RULED OUT FOR THIS CLASH

The red-hot Masandawana came into this contest with seven players unavailable due to various reasons. 

The seven players are Mothobi Mvala [ankle injury], Khuliso Mudau [ankle injury], Rivaldo Coetzee [knee injury], Siyanda Nyanga [knee injury], Abdelmounaim Boutouil [illness], Lesiba Nku [adductor injury], and Thapelo Maseko [hamstring injury].

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS REMAIN UNBEATEN IN THE LEAGUE

The Brazilians are now unbeaten in 16 games since the start of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign.

From those 16 matches, Sundowns won 13 games and drew three in the process.  

CURRENT LOG STANDINGS POSITION

The Chloorkop-based outfit are flourishing at the summit of the DStv Premiership log standings with 42 points from 16 outings.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu are placed 10th on the table with 22 points after 18 games.
