JDR Stars chairman Nemasisi makes plea to SA corporates

JDR Stars chairman and coach Nditsheni Nemasisi has made a plea to SA corporates to improve the standards of the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The SA second-tier league is very competitive, but what has been a challenge to many teams is the issue of finances.

Many teams do not have a big financial power, which leads to club owners digging deep in their pockets to ensure that the club is effectively functioning.

The PSL grant, which is R500 000, is not helping much as the money is used to pay some of the salaries.

Nemasisi calls for big companies to come on board and invest in football. This, in turn, will help the SA grow in football.

“You wish that one day this league can be better sponsored; we wish that corporates can invest in this league because this is where you get your talent,” said Nemasisi.

“It tells you we also need attention to this league because it’s feeding South Africa as a whole. Monnapule Saleng came from us; he was doing well last season [for Orlando Pirates].

“You wish one day corporates do well for football as a whole. I know football is a sport that has been previously disadvantaged, but it shouldn’t stay like that. This is a plea to corporates; PSL aredoing very well taking care of us the best way they can.”

Nemasisi believes that sponsors should also assist in grassroots football, where raw talent is unleashed.

“Corporates need to do more for us, not only for NFD, even grassroots. If we want to be a strong African country in football, we need to take care of our grassroots football.

“I think financially we are not taking care of what is happening down there, and we’ve got the talent. I hope we can improve on that,” he added.
