Johnson’s only wish for Chiefs’ Mfundo Vilakazi
Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Calvin Johnson has revealed the only wish he has for teen sensation Mfundo Vilakazi.
The Chiefs academy graduate was recently promoted to the senior team after impressing with the DStv Diski Challenge team so many times.
The attacker nicknamed ‘Obrigado’ has joined other youngsters like Samkelo Zwane, Wandile Duba, Mduduzi Shabalala and Bontle Molefe in Chiefs’ first team.
The 18-year-old was handed his senior debut last time out by Johnson. He came in as a second-half substitute. However, Vilakazi had a debut to forget as the PSL giants suffered a defeat in the Nedbank Cup Last 32.
Amakhosi lost against Motsepe Foundation Championship new club Milford FC 5-4 on penalties, following a 0-0 draw after 120 minutes of play.
JOHNSON HOPES MFUNDO VILAKAZI FOCUSES SORELY ON FOOTBALL
The 65-year-old wishes that Vilakazi can continue being humble and focus sorely on playing football and becoming a better player.
“[I wish he’s] able to display what people want to see him do best, and that’s playing football and not [fashion] Louis Vuitton and Gucci,” said Johnson.
“The young man himself is a level headed man, for an 18 year-old he’s grounded. I think it’s because of where he comes from and what he has seen with other players within the team.
“Let’s pray that as long as I am here and as long as he’s here, he will be able to keep his feet on the ground.”
Vilakazi is in line to make his first league appearance for the Glamour Boys when they lock horns rivals against Moroka Swallows.
The Soweto sides will take it to the field to battle for three points on Saturday, 2 March. Kickoff at FNB Stadium is at 17:45.
