Khenyeza on Arrows’ struggles: ‘This is what frustrates me’
With the losing streak persisting, Golden Arrows coach Mabhuti Khenyeza has pointed out what irks him about his side amid the club’s struggles.
Abafana Bes’thende suffered their tenth defeat in all competitions on wednesday at Mpumalanga Stadium, losing 1-0 to Sekhukhune United in the DStv Premiership.
Despite having had a good start to the season, they’re struggling to bounce back since they lost to AmaZulu FC in the Carling Knockout in November.
Following their loss to Babina Noko, Khenyeza insisted it’s not a case of bad luck, he feels his men “should take responsibility” as they have been making mistakes.
Arrows’ mentor says he’s frustrated that they play well and create scoring chances but they lack “killer instinct”. He believes this is what gives the opposition an opportunity to come back and punish them.
MABHUTI KHENYEZA INSISTS IT’S NOT A CASE OF BAD LUCK, REVEALS WHAT FRUSTRATES HIM
“I don’t know what’s happening but at the end of the day, luck is for everyone, it might be gone from us, what frustrates me is that it’s not like we’re a team that doesn’t play,” said Khenyeza.
“It’s a team that plays and plays, they play and play and create chances. And then now you need to have that killer instinct.
“Because if you don’t have the opposition, they live with hope [that they can come back and score]…see what happened [Sekhukhune scoring in the last minute].
“I don’t think it’s luck [that we need], it’s the responsibility that we need to take as players.”
The Durban-based side is now tenth on the log standings with 23 points accumulated. They are still looking for their first point since November last year. Khenyeza’s troops last won a league match when they beat Kaizer Chiefs in October.
They will meet Amakhosi in their next match in what will be the second-round clash for the two. The match takes place on Tuesday, 5 March at 19:30 at FNB stadium.
