Eymael opens up on AmaZulu FC and Chippa failed moves
Former Free State Stars and Black Leopards coach Luc Eymael has opened up on his failed moves to AmaZulu FC and Chippa United.
Both sides showed interest in the services of Eymael at the start of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season to take over the coaching positions. However, despite the initial keenness from both sides, negotiations seemingly came to an abrupt halt, leaving the moves unfulfilled.
The Belgian mentor has since joined a DR Congo club, Aigles du Congo, after being appointed as the head coach over a month ago.
In SA, Eymael clinched the 2018 Nedbank Cup with Free State Stars, beating Maritzburg United in the final.
Before joining Aigles du Congo, the tactician was poised for a return to the Premiership with AmaZulu or Chippa. But Usuthu went on to appoint Pablo Franco Martin at the start of the campaign, while the Chilli Boys roped in Morgan Mammila, who has since been redeployed in the technical director role.
EYMAEL SHARE DETAILS ON FAILED MOVE TO RETURN TO SOUTH AFRICA
Eymael has spoken out on his failed return to South Africa with either AmaZulu or Chippa United.
“I had two Zoom meetings in June with Amazulu, and I was close to signing, and the chairman [Sandile Zungu] was happy. I don’t know what happened because I saw Pablo being appointed,” Eymael said on Metro FM.
“AmaZulu did not say why they were no longer willing to give me a job after I signed the contract [of my full staff]. Everything was okay. The agent tried to enquire but did not get a response.
“Another team that I was talking to is Chippa United. The chairman [Chippa Mpengesi] offered me a contract but hired another coach. The chairman of Chippa contacted me again on 31 December and 1st January. I reminded him of the offer he made before, but he told me that he could not make the same offer. He wanted me to take less.”
