Agent gives update on Khune’s Chiefs future amidst Sekhukhune rumours

The agent of Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has given the latest update on the shot-stopper’s future at the club and responded to Sekhukhune United rumours.

Having signed a one-year extension in June last year, Khune will see his contract with Amakhosi expire at the end of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season. This is his 20th campaign donning the gold and black colours of the Soweto giants.

Chiefs had announced that the 36-year-old would “use this year to broaden his technical acumen, as he transitions into a new coaching and ambassadorial role.”

However, the Ventersdorp-born goalie expressed his interest to continue playing, saying that he was hoping that his body could “carry” him until he’s “40”.

Khune has been heavily linked with a move to Sekhukhune United lately with four months remaining in his contract at Chiefs.

However, the player’s representative, Thato Matuka, refuted the rumours, insisting that “no club” has enquired about the former Bafana Bafana captain.

Moreover, Matuka revealed to FARPost that the talks about Khune’s future with Chiefs are ongoing.

AGENT OF KHUNE REFUTES SEKHUKHUNE’S RUMOURS, CONFIRMS CHIEFS TALKS

“The engagements with the club about Itu’s future are ongoing. It’s a process, not overnight discussion,” said Matuka.

“There hasn’t been any offer or talks with any club”.

Khune was last in action for Chiefs when they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in November. This was prior to his suspension following alleged disciplinary transgressions.

The Amakhosi fans’ favourite was part of the Carling All-Stars team that took on Stellenbosch FC in the Carling Black Label Cup in January. He produced magnificent showings, helping his side lift the cup.

Chiefs’ long-serving servant, Khune, has made over 340 appearances for the Phefeni Glamour Boys, producing more than 150 clean sheets in the process.
