Chippa United secure two players with contract extensions

Chippa United have secured two of their key players with contract extensions to keep them at the club beyond the current season.

The Chilli Boys have had an inconsistent campaign with roller-coaster runs in the DStv Premiership. They sit 12th on the table, having accumulated 20 points of the possible 54.

They had a fair start to the season under the tutelage of the then-head coach Morgan Mammila, who had returned to mentor the club after a spell with Moroka Swallows.

Later in the season, they brought in former Golden Arrows coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi as their Technical Director. However, he left after two months of his appointment.

Chippa have picked only four wins, eight draws and suffered six defeats from 18 league matches.

In January, they rang the changes in their technical team, moving Mammila out of the dugout to the technical advisor position. They then appointed Thabo September and Kwanele Kopo as co-coaches.

They have coached the side in three games, drawing two and winning one, guiding the club to the Nedbank Cup Last 16.

And in what seems like plans for the near future, the club has extended the contract of their striker Elmo Kambindu and triggered the option on their midfielder Baraka Majogoro.

In an interview with this publication, Mammila confirmed the two players penned new contracts with the Eastern Cape-based side but didn’t reveal the durations.

“They have signed extensions of the contracts, both of them,” Mammila told FARPost.

Kambindu signed for Chippa at the start of the 2022/23 season from CD Costa do Sol. He endured struggles in his first season at the club but has scored four goals from nine matches in this campaign.

Meanwhile, Majogoro inked a deal with the Chippa Mpengesi-owned side at the beginning of this campaign from Mtibwa Sugar.
