Another ex-Chiefs man linked Khama Billiat’s new club

Zimbabwe’s Yadah FC are leaving no stone unturned to sign big name players and this time, they are angling for a nomadic ex-Kaizer Chiefs man.

On Thursday, 29 March 2024, they unveiled former Amakhosi and Mamelodi Sundowns star Khama Billiat.

Billiat returned to Zimbabwe, where he had a brief stint at Caps United back in 2010. The 33-year-old spent 13 years as one of the top players in the DStv Premiership.

During that stint, he played for Ajax Cape Town [now Cape Town Spurs], Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

He achieved more with the Tshwane giants than at Ajax Cape Town and Chiefs. While he struggled to find a new club in SA, his move to join Yadah FC came as a surprise.

He instantly became the highest-paid player in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer, pocketing about R95,500 [US$5 000] per month.

And as Billiats’ return home has generated a lot of talk in football circles, Yadah FC are already in talks with a nomadic ex-Kaizer Chiefs man, Ovidy Karuru.

Karuru, who played in Belgium, South Africa and Saudi Arabia, is currently clubless. And Yadah feel they can accomodate him.

Karuru’s last known club was Saudi Arabian second tier club Al-Shoulla who released him in September 2022.

Apart from The Glamour Boys, the 35-year-old also played for AmaZulu FC, Stellenbosch FC and Black Leopards. All in all, Karuru made 90 appearances in the DStv Premiership, where he managed 11 goals.

Yadah owner Walter Magaya said their goal is to get players with proven leadership qualities to guide their budding players.

“The biggest ambition is just to bring back joy in the PSL [ Zimbabwe]. We believe that we should bring a bit of leadership and bring back people to support soccer. That is our main aim.

“That is why there is the Heart Stadium. The look is not basically on Yadah, but on the joy that should be found in the PSL. That is what we are aiming to bring that excitement back to football,” he said.

Another former PSL star who is back in Zimbabwe is Kuda Mahachi, who joined Manica Diamonds after a stint in Ghana.
