CT Spurs CEO comments on the club’s turnaround
Cape Town Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou has revealed what has contributed to the sudden turnaround in getting the results.
CT Spurs have collected seven points from a possible 12 in their last four DStv Premiership matches.
This is an improvement from the three points the club gained in their first 14 matches of the 2023/24 season. CT Spurs, at the bottom of the log, are now three points behind 15th-placed Richards Bay FC, who are on 13 points with the same number of games.
In an interview with FARPost, Efstathiou said that although they see the progress, they are not getting carried away.
“It’s nothing to get carried away. I think we just had to go back to the basics and start off,” he said.
WHAT HAS HELPED CAPE TOWN SPURS TURNAROUND IN COLLECTING POINTS
“The attitude at the beginning of January was that we would treat this as a pre-season. So, when you are in the playoffs, it doesn’t give you much time to prepare. So everything is done in a rush, and the players don’t rest. It’s a whole lot of things that interfere with the process.
“The AFCON [break] gave us time to settle back and have a look at what we needed and that’s what we did. So hopefully this is all coming to the fore now. The decisions that were made at that time,” explained Efstathiou.
“We rather stay humble and carry on working hard. Nothing is done until it is done so we will take each game as it comes, I think that’s the best way.”
CEO ALEXI EFSTATHIOU ON NEW SIGNINGS AND HOW ERNST MIDDENDORP HAS IMPROVED PLAYERS
“It is still the same squad. What the coach did was he took some of the players we already had and used them in different positions. So it always looks like we have a new player.
“We did bring in some guys, which has helped. But it’s not that many actually if you look at it. Obviously, we promoted a few from the academy. So I think the coach saw the areas where we can strengthen the team, and that’s the type of players we tried to find,” he added.
“But again, it’s not easy to find players because you never find players that are free and affordable. So it’s not easy.”
