Why Sead Ramovic support calls for VAR in SA football
TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic has joined the conversation about VAR in South Africa following the controversial penalty call on Sunday.
Galaxy were awarded a penalty while trailing 2-0 against Cape Town Spurs in the 59th minute after what looked like a foul on Samir Nurkovic.
Referee Thabo Mkhabela immediately pointed to the spot kick. While Galaxy player Higor Vidal stood to take the penalty, Mkhabela consulted with his assistants and reversed his decision, much to the shock of the Galaxy coach and players.
SEAD RAMOVIC CALLS OUT REFEREE AFTER CONTROVERSIAL PENALTY DECISION
“Maybe he got a call or not, I don’t know,” said Ramovic after the match.
“I really would like to know what the rules are if a referee says it’s a penalty and after two minutes he is still trying to get everybody in their position. Then after two or three minutes he says no, it’s not a penalty. What now?
“Even if there was a VAR, it’s a penalty because he touched him. But again we don’t have the VAR, so what are the rules of these referees,” added.
“I just want to know the rules. I don’t know now what this is and I think they need help.
“Referees in our league need education and we have to know what the rules are. But I think we know what the rules are but maybe they have special ones and I would like to know what is yes or no.”

Ramovic was asked if he believed the VAR was a solution to the bad officiating and this is what he said: “Absolutely, I think it will help a lot.”
“Just like in other leagues, it will also be helping the referees. I think it will be a very good idea.”
