TS Galaxy-Sundowns game postponed following bus accident
The much-anticipated meeting between two foes, Rulani Mokwena and Sead Ramovic, has been called off following an accident involving the TS Galaxy team bus.
TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi confirmed to FARPost that he formally requested the postponement from the PSL management, citing the accident as a reason for the team’s inability to compete.
The tragic accident occurred on the N4/Schoemanskloof road on Tuesday, 5 March 2024. A bus carrying members of the Galaxy team collided with a Volkswagen Polo, resulting in the passing of the Polo’s driver.
The Rocket passengers including Sukazi and the players emerged unscathed from the accident.
Sukazi’s team was en route to Mbombela Stadium for their scheduled DStv Premiership clash against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday evening.
“Our players are in a trauma and distress state. What caused the trauma and made it worse was the situation where the driver of that vehicle lost her life,” Sukazi told this publication.
PSL Supports TS Galaxy After Team Bus Accident
In a statement, the PSL expressed its understanding and support for Galaxy during this difficult time.
“The Premier Soccer League [PSL] hereby confirms the postponement of the DStv Premiership fixture between TS Galaxy FC and Mamelodi Sundowns. The game was scheduled for this evening, 06 March 2024, at Mbombela Stadium (19h30),” said the PSL.
“The decision has been made in consideration of the extraordinary circumstances following an accident involving the TS Galaxy team bus and another motor vehicle on Tuesday afternoon.
“The PSL extends its understanding and support to TS Galaxy FC during this challenging period. We acknowledge the impact of this decision on all stakeholders. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“Details regarding the rescheduled fixture will be communicated in due course.”
Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena’s feud with TS Galaxy counterpart Ramovic had added spice to the league clash. But their much-talked-about war of words will have to wait. The focus shifts to the well-being of those affected by the accident.
Sukazi stated that Galaxy will explore providing counseling services to those impacted by the accident.
