Why AmaZulu FC have moved to King Zwelithini Stadium lately
AmaZulu FC president Sandile Zungu has explained why the club has moved its recent games from the main home venue Moses Mabhida Stadium to King Zwelithini Stadium.
Usuthu have played two home games since the resumption of domestic football after the Africa Cup of Nations.
They opened their second-round campaign on the road with a defeat at the hands of Cape Town Spurs at Athlone Stadium.
They then welcomed Royal AM in Umlazi, knocking them out of the Nedbank Cup after a 1-0 victory thanks to Hendrick Ekstein’s late goal.
After that, they visited Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria and were whipped 3-0 by the DStv Premiership champions at the Loftus Versveld Stadium.
Yesterday, Pablo Franco Martin’s side was held to a 1-1 stalemate at home by Moroka Swallows.
Explaining their move away from the main home ground, Zungu said the club took its games to King Zwelithini due to operations that were taking place at the 2010 World Cup venue in preparation for the rallies of ANC and EFF.
With IFP set to host their manifesto at Moses Mabhida on Saturday, 10 March, Usuthu had to move the Dube Birds to Umlazi as the stadium can’t be used a week before the event.

“King Zwelithini is our number two home ground, it just so happens now that the last couple of weeks, there has been an EFF rally and ANC manifesto and the whole week beforehand, you can’t use the stadium,” said Zungu in an interview with FARPost.
“Now, there’s gonna be an IFP manifesto this weekend, we can’t use the stadiums. So, we have to go to Umlazi.
“It doesn’t mean that now we’re now choosing Umlazi as our main field, it still remains as our number two.
“It’s just that our number one hasn’t been available.”
AmaZulu will play their next home game next month when they welcome Polokwane City on 2 April for the league clash.
