Why TS Galaxy want the Sundowns fixture to be postponed
TS Galaxy president Tim Sukazi says they are waiting for a decision from the PSL regarding their request to postpone their clash against Mamelodi Sundowns following a bus accident on Tuesday.
The team bus carrying players collided with a light vehicle en route to Mpumalanga – Mbombela Stadium for a league game.
The driver of the light vehicle unfortunately lost her life, but all players and staff from the Galaxy bus did not sustain injuries. The DStv Premiership match between Galaxy and Sundowns is scheduled for Wednesday at 19:30 in Mbombela.
PSL REQUESTED TO POSTPONE THE MATCH INVOLVING DEFENDING CHAMPIONS MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
Speaking to FARPost on Wednesday morning, Sukazi confirmed that a request for a postponement has been forwarded to the PSL.
“It’s not about my level of optimism; it’s about me believing in the system. We are in a league that is run by football people. So it makes them relate better to these instances,” he said.
TS GALAXY PLAYERS TRAUMATISED BY BUS ACCIDENT THAT LEFT ONE PERSON DEAD
“We have to wait for the league. Together with Sundowns, we are obviously operating under the auspices of the league,” said Sukazi.
“We are governed by the league. It is the league that makes decisions but then we need to report and make them aware and also make them aware that our players are in trauma and distress state. What caused the trauma and made it worse was the situation where the driver of that vehicle lost her life.
“Her body was removed after three hours while our bus had to be there for more than two hours because we had to arrange for another bus, and it took time for that bus to reach the point of the accident. So that was a very traumatic scene, and I saw it myself. So those are the issues that we reported to the league, and we hope to hear from the league as a matter of agency.”
Sukazi has also clarified that the club has not been able to get professional counselling due to the time issue of the accident and the match date.
“Obviously, you know it happened very close to the match. It’s not like the accident occurred five or three days before. Such that we would arrange properly tested counsellors who know what they are talking about. So we never reached for that. We had to arrive at training and prepare for the match, and today is match day, you know.”
