Banyana duo continue with fine form in Mexico
The Banyana Banyana duo of Jermaine Seoposenwe and Thembi Kgatlana continued their fine form in Mexico, having scored the back of the net for their respective clubs on Saturday morning.
The duo’s stellar performances have been handy for the SA Women’s national team during the last FIFA break. They helped Banyana reach the last round of the 2024 Olympics qualifiers, where they will face arch-rivals Nigeria.
The talented striker, Seoposenwe, started with the game as she helped FC Monterrey to thrash Club Leon with a 4-1 scoreline at the Nou Camp Stadium.
Seoposenwe scored a brace on the day. The lethal frontwoman Seoposenwe broke the deadlock in the 48th minute of the showdown to put her side in front.
After the opposition side equalised, the Cape Town-born forward completed her brace in the 63rd minute before Merel van Dongen and Nicole Perez added to the scoreline.
Seoposenwe, who played her 100th match for Banyana against Tanzania on February 27, has now scored six goals for the Mexican club Monterrey.
THEMBI KGATLANA ON THE SCORESHEET
Banyana co-captain Kgatlana was also on the scoresheet in their matchday nine in the Liga MX Femenil tie against Queretaro Femenil.
Kgatlana found the back of the net to help Tigres secure a 2-0 victory over Queretaro. Jenni Hermoso scored the other goal to seal a win for the red-hot Tigres.
Tigres are yet to drop points since the league started, having won all their nine league matches.
Kgatlana has now scored four goals in Tigres colours this campaign since joining the side on a record-breaking transfer move from the USA outfit Racing Louisville.
As things stand, Tigres are flourishing on the summit of the Liga MX Femenil MX Femenil with 27, whereas Monterrey are placed third with 22 points. Both sides have each played nine matches.
