Former Amakhosi hitman offers advice to misfiring Chiefs strikers
Former Kaizer Chiefs hitman Mike Rapatsa has offered his advice on how current strikers can start scoring goals for the club.
The Soweto giants have been impressive defensively in recent times, but their lack of goals has been a concern.
Chiefs had gone three games without a goal in all competitions before Wandile Duba‘s stunning goal against Golden Arrows in their last match in the league. Amakhosi have only scored 17 goals in their 19 DStv Premiership matches this season.
MIKE RAPATSA WANTS CURRENT STRIKERS TO PLAY AS A TEAM AND NOT AS INDIVIDUALS
Rapatsa says Chiefs players should start playing as a team rather than as individuals if they are to get more goals.
“It’s not about individualism. That’s what I see there at Kaizer Chiefs, players getting the ball and because there is no support, he takes a shot at goal,” he told FARPost.
“Football is about signage, the spirit that exists amongst the team. Signage is what drives the team. If I advise them as individuals, then I am going to promote what is already there at Kaizer Chiefs. They play individual football.
“If I were a coach there, I would revolve my attacking organisation around [Ranga] Chivaviro. I would talk about second ball situations to the midfielder to give the pass to Chivaviro, he is a strong Man. He will hold up the defenders. But you must be quick to feed on him so that he receives the ball. In a second ball situation, take a shield at goal or pass sideways,” Rapatsa advised.
“I would also revolve my attacking organisation around Saile, who is so quick that he can put in a cross at any given time.”
FORMER STRIKER INSISTS THERE ARE QUALITY PLAYERS AT KAIZER CHIEFS
Rapatsa also disagrees with the notion that there are no quality players in the current Chiefs squad.
“People are saying the whole team at Chiefs does not deserve to be there. I disagree.
“There is quality within that team but it requires an insightful coach to get the best out of them by introducing proper training methodologies.”
