Tshwane Derby: Mashego names two stars who could shine

Former SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mashego has named two stars from either side that can light up the Tshwane Derby.

The Tshwane crosstown rivals will battle out for three points on Tuesday, 12 March in the DStv Premiership. Kickoff at Loftus Versfeld Stadium is set for 19H30.

In the first leg that was played in November 2023, Masandawana stamped their authority as they claimed the bragging rights as they edged Matsatsantsa 2-0.

In the current season, both sides have had some individuals that have performed to the best of their ability.

Mashego has therefore tipped Sundowns midfield engine Teboho Mokoena and SuperSport starlet Shandre Campbell to light up the Tshwane Derby.

Mokoena and Campbell have been key players for their respective teams in the league this season. ‘Tebza’ has made 12 appearances. He has scored one goal and provided two assists, while Campbell has also played 12 matches, netting twice and turning the provider three times.

“I think for Sundowns their top performer it’s going to be Teboho Mokoena,” Mashego told FARPost.

“He’s expected to be bossing the midfield if they allow him, that he got his first goal in the last game [against Chippa United]. I think it has given him confidence. I think he will be fun to watch.

“For Supersport, the young boy [Shandre] Campbell, he’s growing in leaps and bounds. I think this is a game we can see what he’s made of and will also relish taking that game to Sundowns.”

Mashego further believes that the Tshwane Derby will be a close contest. However, he admits that Sundowns have the upper hand.

“Goals galore? I don’t think so. Gavin Hunt is a coach who always sets up his team in a way that it will be difficult for the opposition to score.

“Therefore, it wouldn’t be a heavy scoreline game, maybe 2-0, 3-1 or 2-1. That’s what I will predict. But Sundowns are on a good run,” he added.
