Chipezeze throws the favourite tag to other promotion contenders

Magesi FC captain Elvis Chipezeze has refused to take the promotion favourite tag and names three Motsepe Foundation Championship teams that he believes should be favourites.

Magesi currently tops the Motsepe Foundation Championship with nine matches to go. The club is on a seven-match unbeaten run and one of the favourites for a promotion to the DStv Premiership.

A 1-0 win against rivals Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium saw the club take their points tally to 39 points. The University of Pretoria are second with 38, while Orbit College are on 37 points.

MAGESI FC FAVOURITES FOR PROMOTION TO THE DSTV PREMIERSHIP?

But the Zimbabwean International has played down the favourite tag and instead believes the other top four teams have a better chance.

“We are not favourites. We all know that AmaTuks have been in this division for almost a long time. Baroka also, Orbit [College]is coming up,” he told FARPost.

“This is our second season in this division, so we are still learning. Like I said, we take each game as it comes. To us, it is like the cup finals. So we just want to push and see where it’s going to take us.”

ELVIS CHIPEZEZE CREDITS TEAMWORK FOR THE CURRENT FORM

The 2018 Telkom Knockout winner with Baroka FC has also credited the team spirit as a major factor for their form.

“You can see that the guys who were not in the match-day squad travelled to support the guys. So, where there is unity, blessings will always be there. That was the main focus when we started this campaign: We have to be together.

“Whether we are losing or winning, we have to be together. Unlike when someone is not in the squad and starts sulking and stuff like that. So I am just happy because the team spirit is on another level. Everyone is fighting for one another on the field of play, which is a good thing.”
