Why Hugo Broos is yet to call-up Relebohile Mofokeng

Hugo Broos has finally revealed why he has yet to call-up Orlando Pirates teen sensation Relebohile Mofokeng for Bafana Bafana duties.

Pirates rising star Mofokeng has been so good that he attracted interest from arguably the best league in the world, the English Premier League [EPL].

Ahead of the second half of the PSL season, Mofokeng tried his luck at Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 19-year-old has been in fine form for the Soweto giants. He started in the tense Soweto Derby on Saturday and played a key role as Pirates beat Kaizer Chiefs 3-2.

Mofokeng has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season after making his DStv Premiership debut towards the end of last season. In addition, he has scored two goals, with three assists under his belt.

Considering his current form, it has not been hard to imagine him donning the gold and green jersey of Bafana Bafana.

As a result, his omission from the Bafana Bafana squad for international friendlies sparked calls for him to be included.

WHAT HUGO BROOS SAID ABOUT RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG

However, it appears, Hugo Broos has other plans regarding Mofokeng, who he admits has the right flair.

Asked about the youthful player, the Belgian revealed that he is monitoring the attacker’s progress at Pirates.

“Mofokeng of Pirates is a very interesting player. He is also a very young player. So we will see if he keeps his position in the Pirates, and then maybe there will come a time when we will call him.

“But he is very good, and it’s important that we detect and follow those players. And at the right moment, we will call them. You can be sure of it,” he said.

Broos named his final 23-man squad for the upcoming friendlies against Andorra and Algeria. This will be Bafana’s first assignment since accounting for the bronze at the 2023 AFCON finals.
