Wayne Arendse picks out impressive Sundowns signing

Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Wayne Arendse has named the club’s signing that has impressed him a lot this season.

Sundowns are well-known for bringing in high-profile and quality players when bolstering their squad. This is to help them to be able to be competitive in all the tournaments they participate in.

The 2023/24 PSL season was no different. At first, Masandawana signed five players: Lesiba Nku, Bathusi Aubaas, Junior Mendieta, Thapelo Maseko, and Lucas Ribeiro.

In the January transfer window, they didn’t stop as they added four new faces to the team. The Tshwane giants acquired the services of Tashreeq Matthews, Matias Esquivel, Zuko Mdunyelwa and Thembinkosi Lorch

WAYNE ARENDSE SAYS LUCAS REBEIRO HAS IMPRESSED HIM A LOT

The retired defender says Brazilian attacker Lucas Rebeiro is the club’s signing that has caught his eye.

The 25-year-old hit the ground running for the reigning DStv Premiership champions as he didn’t need time to settle in and gel with the rest of the players.

Currently, Ribeiro is the leading top scorer in the league. The Brazilian has double figures after scoring 10 goals. He has also turned provider twice in the process.

“There is a player that scored three goals in a league match [hattrick], Lucas Ribeiro,” Arendre told FARPost.

“You can see that technique is there. He’s not wild; he’s composed, and he knows how to put the ball in the back of the net.

“When you go to top competitions like CAF Champions League you need players that can be clinical. When they get a half chance, they put it in the back of the net.

“Ultimately, that’s how you play in the Champions League like they did in the African Football League. The signing shows quality.”
