AmaZulu FC season’s objective that ‘remains unchanged’

Despite the club’s inconsistency in results, AmaZulu FC president Sandile Zungu has discussed their objective that “remains unchanged”.

Usuthu have won five, drawn nine and lost six of 20 league games they have played so far this season.

They are currently 11th on the DStv Premiership log standings with 24 points.

Giving his honest thought on the club’s run this season, Zungu said he was hoping that at this time they would be sitting in the “top two”.

He says the club is still aiming to end the campaign in the top four, an objective that was set at the beginning of the season.

However, in the event that they can’t make the top four, he said they should at least secure the top eight spot.

Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC are currently within the top four.

“Of course, I would have wanted us to be in the top two by now,” said Zungu in an interview with FARPost.

“And we had many opportunities in the first half of the season and I also thought we were hard done by some of the officiating decisions.

“But recently we have lost games against Sundowns and Cape Town Spurs. Those were well-officiated games and we lost which is obviously disappointing.

“But we play very good football and we’re through to the next round of the Nedbank Cup. We didn’t beat minnows, we beat a strong opposition Royal AM.

“We will bounce back, I’m very confident that we will finish in the top four. The objective of the top-four finish remains unchanged.

“If in the unlikely event that we don’t finish in the top four, then we must be at least in the top eight because we have unfinished business with MTN8.

“I’m very happy with the coach and his assistant. And I’m very happy with the boys.”
