‘It’s taking the interest away’-Roger De Sa on Sundowns dominance

Former Orlando Pirates head coach Roger De Sa has claimed that Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance in the DStv Premiership is taking the interest away from the league.

Sundowns have proven their dominance in the PSL after winning the sixth league title in a row last season.

In the current campaign, The Brazilians are on course to clinch the seventh successive league trophy. They sit comfortably at the summit of the log with 46 points in 18 matches. Sundowns have yet to lose a match in the league this season after winning 14 matches and drawing four.

Masandawana are leading second-placed Orlando Pirates with 13 points and they played two games less than Pirates.

Sundowns could have extended their lead at the top of the table to 15 points. However, they dropped points with a 1-1 draw against SuperSport United at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Tshwane giants have also been lethal in the transfer market with the signing of top players on the African continent and Europe.

In the past January transfer window, Sundowns completed the high-profile signing of Thembinkosi Lorch from rivals Pirates.

Lorch signed for Sundowns alongside Bafana Bafana international Tashreeq Matthews, Zuko Mdunyelwa, and Matías Esquivel.

ROGER DE SA REVEALS CONCERNS WITH MAMELODI SUNDOWNS’ DOMINANCE

The 59-year-old mentor is worried that Sundowns’ ability to sign every player on their wishlist is making the Premiership less interesting.

“I watch our league, it’s Mamelodi Sundowns and the rest, they’ve built a very great team because of their money.

“The Sundowns dominance is taking a little bit of the interest away, they have three international goalkeepers and another two on loan. You look at their bench, all those players can play regular football at any team in the DStv Premiership.

“I say this with all due respect to Sundowns and MR Patrice Motsepe: The money is good for the team, helping them sign every player they need, but how long is it going to last?

“Remember when Bidvest Wits had money? They bought everyone and won the league. We all know what happened to them when the money was no longer there.”
