The Bafana star that reminds Sibusiso Zuma of his own playing style
Bafana Bafana legend Sibusiso Zuma has revealed a current national team star who reminds him of himself in terms of playing style.
Coach Hugo Broos has managed to assemble a good, competitive team as the 1996 African champions seem to be heading towards the right direction.
In attack, there are great, talented players such as Themba Zwane, Sphephelo Sithole, Teboho Mokoena, Percy Tau and Khanyisa Mayo.
Bafana had an impressive run at the 2023 AFCON tournament that was held in Ivory Coast earlier this year. They finished third and clinched the bronze medal.
WHO REMINDS SIBUSISO ZUMA OF HIMSELF?
The retired attacker has singled out Cape Town City FC striker Khanyisa Mayo as the national team’s bright future. He further revealed that the 25-year-old reminds him of his playing style during him prime time.
Mayo is the reigning DStv Premiership top goalscorer after finding the back of the net 12 times last season. In the current campaign, the hitman is sitting on nine league goals from 18 matches. For Bafana Bafana, he’s yet to contribute towards a goal.
“I would say a player like Khanyisa Mayo reminds me of my playing style,” Zuma told FARPost.
“He’s fast and he’s a good finisher in front of goal. But he still needs a little bit of experience and still needs a lot of game time especially with Bafana Bafana.
“He’s very good on the ball, and he’s got a bright future. I always support young guys to go overseas. I’m expecting a lot of guys to go overseas, players like Khanyisa Mayo. This will help our team to grow and improve the quality.
“There’s good competition overseas, players always come back and help the national team. So I’m expecting half of the team to get offers overseas.”
