Pitso Mosimane’s Abha Club bounces back to winning ways
Pitso Mosimane’s Abha Club bounced back to winning ways on Thursday night after edging ten-men Al Wehda 1-0 in the Saudi Pro League.
They beat Al Wehda at the Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Stadium as Mosimane recorded his second win at the club.
The game started at a high tempo, with the veteran gaffer’s men piling pressure in search of an early goal. Al Wehda tried to contain the pressure, but they were hamstrung when midfielder Waleed Bakshween was red-carded after 22 minutes of play.
From then on, Pitso Mosimane’s Abha Club took control of proceedings, and it paid dividends in the 34th minute when they broke the deadlock.
Ziad al Sahafi scored a thunderbolt from close range, a goal that separated the two sides going into the half-time break.
PITSO MOSIMANE’S ABHA CLUB INDIFFERENT CAMPAIGN
Last week, Pitso Mosimane’s side, Abha Club, suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Al-Ettifaq. Before the defeat, they beat Al-Tai 2-0 at home with hopes of keeping their winning form.
Losing to Al-Ettifaq meant Abha failed to register back-to-back victories since November 2023.
Last week’s result further piled pressure on the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana coach, whose mandate is to help the team avoid relegation.
To be sure of surviving, Mosimane will need to secure at least six wins from the remaining 10 matches. As it stands, Mosimane’s men remain 17th on the log after amassing 21 points from 24 matches.
They are six points above Al-Hazm, who anchor the log standings. Al-Tai are 16th with a superior goal difference.
Knowledge Musona’s Al Riyadh currently occupy the 15th position, with two points ahead of Mosimane’s men.
Perhaps Mosimane is banking on the experience he earned in his first stint in Saudi Arabia. He helped Al Ahli gain promotion to the Saudi Pro League before the two parties unceremoniously parted ways.
Mosimane will hope to get a positive result in their next match against Knowledge Musona’s Al Riyadh on the 30th of March.
