9 goal contributions in 21 games: Teko Modise talks Shandre Campbell
Teko Modise has had his say on 18-year-old Shandre Campbell who has racked up an impressive 9 goal contributions in just 21 starts for SuperSport United.
The teenage sensation Campbell has been making waves in the PSL, and he continued with his great form as SuperSport progressed to the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup on Saturday following a 3-1 victory over Richards Bay FC at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
Campbell put on a show with a first-half brace. He found the back of the net in the sixth minute, putting his team on the board early. He wasn’t done there, adding another goal in the 44th minute to solidify SuperSport’s lead just before halftime. Gamphani Lungu added a third goal in stoppage time on a counter-attack, putting the game firmly out of reach.
Sibonginhlanhla Mthethwa had pulled one back for Rich Natal Boys, scoring in the 85th minute.
Campbell has now scored three goals in two matches in the Nedbank Cup. He provided an assist in the CAF Confederation Cup and netted two goals alongside three assists in the DStv Premiership.
For his great performance against the KZN side, the Matsatsantsa academy graduate was named the Man of the Match.
TEKO MODISE ON SHANDRE CAMPBELL’S DISPLAYS
Speaking exclusively to FARPost on Saturday at Nedbank Ya Rona House in Parktown, Modise says Campbell performs better coming from the left-hand side of the pitch.
“What’s great about [Shandre] Campbell is his understanding of the ball. When it’s on the left-hand side, he needs to be in front of the box to score,” said Modise.
“As a winger, you need to contribute by scoring goals and providing assists. Look at the two goals that he scored.
“Richards Bay FC were unable to defend those crosses. Therefore, they lost markers inside the box.
“Shandre Campbell has grown to be a solid player for SuperSport United. If the rumours are true, he won’t play for SuperSport for a long time because of the quality he has in him.”
