Sundowns legend shown exit door by Limpopo club

Limpopo SAFA ABC Motsepe League club Ditlou FC have explained why they parted ways with Mamelodi Sundowns legend Joel ‘Fire’ Masilela.

Masilela arrived at the club just before the beginning of the current season to take over from Alex Bapela.

He had just left Sundowns, where he was head coach of their Men’s Under /15 coach. The 53-year-old leaves the Limpopo side in second position in stream B.

He allegedly left the club after a fall-out with the club’s hierarchy.

“The two parties agreed to part ways. But that was after a disciplinary hearing against the head coach,” the club’s General Manager, Mothobi Petje, told FARPost.

He was asked what the hearing was about but maintained it was the club’s internal matter.

“It was based on internal matters that the club and Masilela did not agree upon; therefore, the coach was released.”

With their closest rivals, Tzaneen United, seemingly running away with first position. Petje says the recent results also played a big role in deciding to part ways with Masilela.

“We didn’t get the results that we had hoped for,” he said.

“So it was one of those things that we also looked at the performance of the team. In about four games we collected one point out of a possible 12 points.

“That put a strain on ourselves as a club and that was one of the main reasons why he was actually released.”

Meanwhile, only five matches are remaining from the stream before the league concludes. Tzaneen United are 11 points ahead of Ditlou having played an equal number of matches.

In Stream A, Mpheni Home Defenders are currently top of the log with seven matches to go. They are followed by Emmanual FC who trail by five points.
