Veli Mothwa’s interesting admission about Olwethu Mzimela

AmaZulu FC captain Veli Mothwa has made an interesting admission about Olwethu Mzimela, who, until recently, had taken over the number spot at the club.

Mzimela made his debut towards the end of last year and ended up benching Mothwa for a number of games.

In the eight matches that he played, Mzimela conceded nine goals and kept three clean sheets.

But the Bafana Bafana keeper, Mothwa has since returned to the line-up during the 1-1 draw against SuperSport United earlier this month. He was also voted Man of the Man when Usuthu defeated Sekhukhune United in the Nedbank Cup last 16 last week.

However, Mothwa believes the 22-year-old deserves to play more for the club.

“I feel like he deserves to play more, even though now I am playing,” said Mothwa.

“I feel like he still has to play more with the support that I give him and vice versa. The goalkeepers surrounding me at AmaZulu and the national team are still the same. So I feel like he is okay, and he can do better going forward.”

SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BAFAAN KEEPER AND OLWETHU MZIMELA

Mothwa has also shared the kind of relationship he has with the former DStv Diski Challenge player.

“Most people say I am lying; he is my son, actually. He is my son, and I am always with him. We come to training together, we have lunch together. We do so many things together, you know. When he plays, you need to support him and he knows what he needs to do on the field of play.

“But you don’t have to put pressure on the young ones. Just let them be themselves, and they will give you 100 per cent performances when they play. So far his stats are okay.”
