Augustine Kwem reveals his ultimate DStv Prem ambition

Nigerian and AmaZulu FC striker Augustine Kwem has revealed his all-time DStv Premiership desire as he opens up about the big three teams in SA.

The AmaZulu FC striker began his DStv Premiership sojourn in July 2019, then in the books of Chippa United.

As an unknown striker, Kwem proved that there is something special about him as he scored 13 goals and provided four assists in 60 appearances for Chippa before making a switch to TS Galaxy in July 2021.

Sadly, his progress was hindered by a long injury layoff as the 26-year-old spent half of the 2021/22 season in the treatment bed.

As such, he only featured in 18 matches where he scored four goals. Kwem went to join Usuthu in July 2022, where he has now contributed seven goals in all competitions this season.

Six of his goals came in the DStv Premiership, while the other goal was scored in the Carling Knockout Cup.

At the moment he is fifth on the top goal scorers with six goals under his belt, four behind Mamelodi Sundowns‘ Lucas Ribeiro Costa.

And as his profile continues to rise, Kwem says his ultimate ambition is to win the Golden Boot. “It has been a time full of lessons. I now know a lot about the league, so right now, my eyes are on winning the top-scorer award,” he said in an interview with FARPost.

“That is my desire right now. I’m not far from the top scorers, but I’ve got to be effective in the last few matches.

“Of course, I will not let my ambitions override what the club wants, but my goal as a striker is to score.

“Hopefully, that will help us reach our goal as a club and individuals. I’m confident that I will achieve it soon,” added Kwem.

THE BIG THREE DREAM IN THE PSL

Kwem believes winning the coveted award could open pathways for him to play for one of the league’s big three.

“The moment you arrive in South Africa, you fall in love with the big teams, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns,” he said.

“Personally, I believe achieving bigger things [Golden Boot] can easily earn you a place in those teams.

“Almost every player wishes to play for those clubs, but first, we all have to appreciate where we are.
