Battle for African glory: CAF sets dates for Champions League & Confed Cup finals

The quest for continental supremacy in African club football has taken a major step forward as CAF has announced the dates for the highly-anticipated finals of both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Eight teams remain in the hunt for glory in the CAF interclub competitions, with the quarter-final matches kicking off this weekend.

South African football fans will be glued to the action. Mamelodi Sundowns and other top African clubs will be locked in intense battles for a coveted spot in the semi-finals.

The Last eight clashes will get underway on Friday, 29 March when Simba SC and Al Ahly face off at the Benjamin Mkaba Stadium. The same venue hosts Yanga SC and Sundowns on Saturday, 30 March.

Meanwhile, TP Mazembe will take on Petro de Luanda with Esperance de Tunis welcoming ASEC Mimosas on the same day.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AND CONFEDERATION CUP FINALS TO BE PLAYED IN MAY

In a statement released on Thursday, CAF revealed the format for the finals of the 2023/24 season Champions League and Confederation Cup. The final matches will be played over two legs with each team hosting one leg in May 2024.

“The First Leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will be played on Sunday, 12 May 2024. The Second Leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will be played the following weekend, Sunday, 19 May 2024,” said CAF.

“The TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Final First Leg will be on Saturday, 18 May 2024. The Second Leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Final will be played on Saturday, 25 May 2024.”
