Mahlatse Makudubela reveals coaches who played vital role in his career

Young Africans SC winger Mahlatse Makudubela has revealed coaches who have had the biggest impact on his football career.

‘Skudu’, as he’s popularly known within the football circles, made the revelations during his interview with the SA Football Journalists’ Association [SAFJA], on Thursday afternoon.

The 34-year-old has had his share of play for different teams in Mzansi. He represented teams such as Orlando Pirates, Chippa United, Golden Arrows, AmaTuks, and the now-defunct Platinum Stars, just to mention a few.

Abroad, he also played for Karvina B in the Czech Republic back in the 2018/19 season. Makudubela is now in the books of Tanzanian giants, Yanga SC.

Having enjoyed the success of playing the beautiful game under different coaches, the attacker singled out the coaches who played the most critical role in his development.

“I take my hat off to all the coaches that played a role in my upbringing. You know, I have worked with many other coaches throughout my career,” said Makudubela.

“Special mention to coach Dan Malesela. Coach Malesela has played a very vital role in my upbringing and development dating back to my School of Excellence days.

“Another coach, may his soul rest in peace, coach Ted Dumitru, who took me under his wing when I was still under the structures of Mamelodi Sundowns before I got promoted to the first team.”

MAHLATSE MAKUDUBELA SEND SHOUT-OUT TO COACH ROMAIN FOLZ

Makudubela also sent a special shout-out to former Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu FC coach Romain Folz, who he has described as a friend and father figure to him.

‘Skudu’ is a big admirer of Folz’s work, who is currently working as FIFA performance manager.

“Also, special mention to coach Romain Folz, who has been a mentor, friend, father figure and coach to me,” stated Makudubela.

“He’s a very humble and highly respectful, and a person of high integrity. I think his work in FIFA right now speaks volumes for him.”
