Refiloe Jane headlines Banyana final squad to face Nigeria

Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis has named her final squad for the fourth round of the 2024 Olympics qualifiers against Nigeria, with captain Refiloe Jane returning to the squad after her long-term injury.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies players are leading the pack. The South African women’s national team final squad consists of 24 players.

Banyana will take on Nigeria in the first-leg on Friday, 5 April 2024. The game will take place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, with kick-off set for 18:00 [SA Time].

The return leg will be played on Tuesday, 9 April at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria at 19:30.

EXPERIENCED GOALKEEPER ANDILE DLAMINI RULED OUT

SAFA confirmed that goalkeeper Andile Dlamini has been ruled out of the squad ahead of the Olympics qualifiers. This is due to medical reasons. Dlamini is replaced by Regirl Ngobeni of the University of the Western Cape [UWC].

Samkelisiwe Selana has also withdrawn due to injury. Her place has been taken by Mmabatho Mogale of JVW FC, but she couldn’t make the final squad.

On Monday, 25 March 2024, Banyana assembled for a week-long training camp in Pretoria. The camp consisted of local-based players.

The overall winner of the two-legged fixture will represent the African continent at the Paris Olympic Games, which will be held from 24 July to 10 August 2024.
