‘Tshabalala, Brian Baloyi are good examples of this’: Morton

Cape Town Spurs midfielder Michael Morton has discussed what the current generation of players can learn from SA football legends like Siphiwe Tshabalala and Brian Baloyi.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with FARPost, Morton lamented over the negative stories the country has heard about the retired footballers.

Using social media as a tool, he’s planning to “dive into the issue more and more”, helping players plan for the future.

Morton picked out Kaizer Chiefs legends Siphiwe Tshabalala and Brian Baloyi as “good” examples that SA footballers should look up to. He says the two former Soweto giants men have continued to do well to be successful even after football.

“It’s difficult, this is why I’m trying to build the platform on social media and I want to dive into this issue more and more,” said Morton.

“We need to show players good examples of guys who have gone on to be very successful after football.

“I think we often hear about all negative stories about all the guys who were on top.

“I think it would be great to show them [current players] good examples of the guys who are doing well off-the-field.

“I’m reading stories of the likes of Brian Baloyi who has been extremely successful in business. I think Shabba [Siphiwe Tshabalala] is another example of somebody who’s done extremely well off-the-field.

“We need to push footballers more and more towards these positive stories. There’s too much negative things that happen to them after football.

“I think if we start giving good examples, I think we could really inspire the next generation to do more than just playing football, to study, get into business and learn about business.”
