Lifa Hlongwane opens up about his reputation

Baroka FC midfielder Lifa Hlongwane says there has been a wrong perception about him based on how he exited his previous clubs.

Hlongwane recently left DStv Premiership side TS Galaxy after the club opted to terminate his contract.

He previously left Black Leopards and Maritzburg United for different reasons. The attacker previously rubbished reports that he left Maritzburg United due to off-field issues.

In an interview with FARPost, Hlongwane says he feels there is some wrong perception about him, which is completely inaccurate.

BAROKA FC WINGER ON WHY PEOPLE HAVE THE WRONG PERCEPTION ABOUT HIM

“That’s the problem. Maybe people tell themselves that I have gone to training drunk or something, but that’s not the case,” he said.

“Maybe that’s the perception that other teams have. So that’s why I decided to go home [when clubs were not keen to sign me].”

“That’s why I even chose to join a club that is coached by Dan [Malesela]. Even if he was coaching in the ABC Motsepe League, I would have gone there,” he explained.

“No one can make me fail. Only if they cut my legs, then those that want me to fail will win. As long as I still have my legs I want to do what I love, which is to play football.

“People always question my moves. Even when I went to TS Galaxy, they were number 16. I played in all the matches, and we survived. So not even a single day will I doubt my talent.”

LIFA HLONGWANE POSITIVE OF SECURING PROMOTION TO THE DSTV PREMIERSHIP

Baroka are currently 10 points behind log leaders Magesi with seven matches remaining in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. They are just two points below the PSL Promotional Playoffs spot behind Orbit College.

Hlongwane remains optimistic that they can secure promotion to the DStv Premiership.

“We are left with seven cup finals, and with the quality, we are more than capable [of gaining promotion]. But we take it one game at a time and focus on the next match,” he said.
