PSL side secure the services of a Danish keeper

In their quest to strengthen their goalkeeping department, Black Leopards have secured the services of a Danish shot-stopper.

Despite the recent inconsistency in terms of results, the club is still within a chance of qualifying for the PSL promotional playoffs to the DStv Premiership.

Leopards suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of rivals Venda FC last week. They were also held to a 0-0 draw by Baroka FC at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday. Lidoda Duvha are 10th on the log with 30 points and seven matches remaining.

But the Motsepe Foundation Championship side has been dealt a huge blow following the injury to their number one keeper, Mashudu Makhavhu. The latter suffered the injury while at training and has been missing for the past few games.

The club has since moved swiftly to sign Benjamin Schubert. His last club was B68 Toftir in the Faroe Islands Premier League. The 27-year-old has also played for Sønderjyske in the second tier of Danish football. Schubert has also had stints at Jammerbugt and Kolding, all in Denmark.

He made his debut during the 4-2 loss to Venda FC but was on the bench when Leopards played to a draw with Baroka.

MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP STILL HOPEFUL OF SECURING PROMOTION SPOT

Meanwhile, head coach Solly Luvhengo has refused to give up on qualifying for the promotion playoffs.

“Looking at the log, we are left with seven matches, which means there are 21 points to play for,” he said on Sunday.

“21 points plus 30 still make it 51, and with those points, we can remain hopeful. As long as it’s still mathematically possible, we won’t give up, and we will keep fighting like a team.”

Luvhengo believes they could have won their clash against Baroka if it was not for the missed chances.

“We came into the match from two home defeats. We also faced a club that is very difficult to play with and well-coached by someone with PSL experience. But we dominated the game and got better chances to score, but it was just not meant to be.”
