Security measures revealed after ISIS threatens attacks on UEFA Champions League

Spanish authorities and UEFA have ramped up security protocols for this week’s Champions League quarterfinal matches in response to recent terror threats by ISIS

UEFA confirmed that all Champions League matches will go ahead as planned, despite a recent terror threat from ISIS.

The threat targeted all four stadiums hosting the matches, including Arsenal’s Emirates and Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu. The first leg fixtures include Arsenal vs Bayern Munich and Real Madrid vs Manchester City on Tuesday.

A pro-ISIS media outlet, Al Azaim Foundation, published a threat, displaying a poster with the message “Kill them all” next to the names of the four Champions League stadiums.

In the wake of a recent ISIS attack in Moscow and a, thankfully uneventful, call for an attack on Bayern Munich’s stadium, UEFA has collaborated with venue authorities to implement security measures.

Spanish authorities have confirmed heightened security measures in Madrid, with over 2,000 police officers deployed for surveillance.

WHAT SECURITY MEASURES ARE IN PLACE AFTER ISIS THREAT

“UEFA is aware of alleged terrorist threats made towards this week’s UEFA Champions League matches and is closely liaising with the authorities at the respective venues,” the statement said.

Organizers have confirmed all matches will proceed as planned and are implementing appropriate security measures.

Spanish authorities say “in terms of preventing the terrorist threat, the State Security Forces and Bodies have activated all their early warning and protection systems, as well as all their response mechanisms ready and willing.”
